What is MSCG?

The primary purpose of the Michigan Specialized Communications Group is to provide communications for public service in time of need.  The role of MSCG is not to replace, but to augment existing communications systems.  A communications emergency is said to exist when “customary communications” are interrupted or overloaded.

MSCG will, to the best of its ability, provided needed communications for governmental and private agencies on request.  All activities and communications are conducted under Part 97 of the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) Rules and Regulations.

Some of the many agencies we will serve include:

  • National Weather Service
  • Genesee Co. Emergency Managment
  • Genesee Co. Fire Coordination System
  • Genesee Co. Sheriff’s Search and Rescue
  • Bobby Crim Road Race

Great News

MSCG attained its official 501(c) (3 ) Public Charity status dated July 29, 2010, with an effective date of exemption starting January 25, 2010 . It was a lot of hard work and frustration for a few of the board members. There was a boat load of paperwork and deadlines involved and we happen to be doing this during multiple IRS policy changes. It was sort of a moving target at times. Please thank those board members involved when you see them. This status means that all donations made to MSCG are tax deductible.

New Page Alert via cell text system

Over the next week or so we will be implementing a new text based paging system to our members. This will allow us to get the word out of a MARET/MSCG activation to many more people then what we are restricted with due to numbers of pagers. If you are interested in being on the call out list and you have not already contacted us, please email or text Tom, WC5B at wc5b@mscginc.org with your cell number and cell provider information.

Notice: Fire Pager Users

All pagers MUST be turned in as soon as possible for new programming requirements and maintenance alignments. Once programmed they will be re-issued. Please assist us in getting this done quickly. Ultimately they need to get to Dale KC8ZXF, but any board member can get them to the right place.
